When Is The Divorce Final?

April 11, 2014 by Marc Jacob

Your divorce will be final when you receive the judgment of divorce from the court.

This will be mailed to you, and often arrives months, not weeks, after your final settlement agreement is submitted to the judge.

It can be a frustrating time for some, but we find that for many of our clients, the period between the end of the negotiation and the end of the marriage represents a kind of lull where they are able to take stock of where they are and what they want from life with a new set of possibilities.

Still, it’s important to our clients that they know that the divorce process is continuing, even while they wait for their final decree. At Zelenitz, Shapiro & D’Agostino, we make sure our clients are always aware of the status of their divorce.

Call us today at 718-523-1111 for a free consultation with a Queens divorce attorney.
