Will My Spouse Have To Pay Child Support If I File While I’m Pregnant In Queens?

November 7, 2014 by Marc Jacob

Yes, whether or not you and your child’s other parent are married when your child is born, every parent in Queens has an obligation to support their children.

If you are divorcing or divorced when your baby is born, your spouse has the same responsibilities for financially supporting their child as they would if the child were older at the end of the marriage.

Your spouse will be ordered to pay child support starting at your baby’s birth, and depending on the terms of the divorce, they may be ordered to assist with medical costs during your pregnancy.

Child support will be ordered through the child’s 21st birthday, though you and your spouse may develop additional strategies if your child needs additional support through college and so forth.

The attorneys at Zelenitz, Shapiro & D’Agostino can help you get the support you need for your child, regardless of when you file for divorce.

Call us today at 718-523-1111 and talk to a Queens divorce and child support lawyer for free.
