Once My Spouse Is Served How Long Do They Have To Respond?

February 21, 2014 by Marc Jacob

Once served, your spouse has 20 days to respond.

If they don’t respond within that window, they are considered to be in default, and the court can issue a default judgment, effectively agreeing to your settlement terms.

Some couples choose the default judgment method as the least expensive option for divorce.

Default divorce also protects private financial and other information from the court’s purview.

There are dangers though. If you and your spouse are considering a default divorce, be sure you’re fully informed before it’s too late.
