I Earn More Than My Spouse. Will I Have To Make Alimony Payments After My Queens Divorce?

June 1, 2015 by Marc Jacob

If you earn significantly more than your spouse in Queens, it’s not unreasonable to expect that you may be ordered to provide financial support for at least some period of time after your divorce ends.

Not every divorce will include spousal maintenance, also known as alimony, but when a lower-earning spouse asserts a need and the higher earner has an income adequate to allow it, judges often err on the side of providing for the spouse who may need training or a new career path.

How much spousal maintenance you may be expected to pay and for how long are matters that you’ll work through with your divorce lawyer, and then negotiate or litigate with your spouse. Many factors will play into creating a reasonable divorce settlement.

At Zelenitz, Shapiro & D’Agostino, we make sure our clients get the best outcome possible in their divorces.

Call us today at 718-523-1111 to speak to an experienced Queens divorce attorney for free.
