How Many Appearances Will I Have To Make To Complete My Divorce?

January 23, 2014 by Marc Jacob

It depends on the kind of divorce. In New York, when you or your spouse file an uncontested divorce, you are typically not required to appear.

Sometimes the court will have questions, and you or your spouse can be called in during the proceedings, but that’s not common.

If your divorce is contested, you will be required to appear, possibly many times.

If you or your spouse chooses to contest the divorce, the case may involve multiple hearings, appearances, and in contentious divorces, you may even go through a trial to resolve issues.

At Zelenitz, Shapiro & D’Agostino, we can help you navigate the issues and ensure the court has all the information it needs. Call 718-523-1111 today for a free consultation.
