How Long Will My Spouse Have To Respond To My Summons And Complaint In Queens?

October 9, 2014 by Marc Jacob

Your spouse has 20 days to respond to your summons and complaint, and assuming they contest some part of it, that will begin the process of negotiating your final divorce settlement, or heading to trial.

You’ll start with a Preliminary Conference presided over by the judge, where the parties and their lawyers meet to discuss the outstanding issues in your divorce and see which areas are likely to be resolved, and which aren’t.

You’ll be ordered to provide financial information and statements of net worth, and then meet again a few weeks later for a Compliance Conference.

In many cases, all issues can be resolved in these two meetings, which saves you money and the court time.

In others, the Compliance Conference marks the spot where a truly contentious divorce gets started.

The attorneys at Zelenitz, Shapiro & D’Agostino understand divorce in Queens, and zealously protect your rights and interests.
