Are Divorces Handled By Family Court In Queens?

October 6, 2014 by Marc Jacob

No, divorces in Queens and all jurisdictions of New York are handled by The Supreme Court of the State of New York. You’ll file with the Supreme Court in your county, or the county where your spouse lives, and the divorce process will commence there.

A Supreme Court judge will oversee your divorce proceedings, including the trial in a contested matter, and ultimately issue your Judgment of Divorce.

Family Court is the appropriate venue to work out matters relating to paternity, child custody, child support, and spousal maintenance, though these matters will be addressed in your divorce filing.

For help in navigating the divorce system in Queens, call the experienced divorce team at Zelenitz, Shapiro & D’Agostino today at 718-523-1111 for a free consultation.
