Are Custody Matters Different In Queens If Our Children Are Adopted?

August 3, 2014 by Marc Jacob

No, children that are legally adopted by families in Queens are identical to children who are born to families in Queens, and resolution of custody matters is handled identically.

You will be required to develop a custody agreement outlining which parent holds legal custody, and is responsible for making medical and other significant decisions for the children, and physical custody, by providing a primary residence where the children will live.

These roles can be shared, depending on the two spouses’ ability to work constructively with each other in the best interest of the child.

You’ll also have to develop a child support agreement, based either on New York State’s formula or another metric that the court will have to approve.

In all ways, your custody matters will look the same as they would in any other divorce action.

The attorneys at Zelenitz, Shapiro & D’Agostino have years of experience developing strong custody frameworks that put kids first.
